Leading UK engineering services provider enhances its asset care offering with acquisition of air compressor maintenance specialist
Aliter has confirmed that portfolio company Edwin James Group has acquired Motivair, a Staffordshire based specialist in the service, maintenance and installation of air compressor systems.
Edwin James Group is a critical engineering services provider, supporting customers across the UK in their infrastructure, process and digital environments. In its latest published accounts, for the year ending February 2023, the group reported turnover increasing by 22% to £175m and an order book growing to £800m.
Based in Staffordshire, Motivair is a maintenance service provider and turnkey supplier of low and high pressure air compressors, servicing a blue chip customer base across the UK, with a focus on the Industrial, Infrastructure, Utilities and Defence sectors.

As part of the transaction, Motivair’s Managing Director Iain Beadle (pictured left), Operations Director Nigel Paton and Finance Director, Greg Smout will continue in their current roles and work closely with the management team at Edwin James Group to further develop the business.
In February 2023, Aliter’s second fund completed a significant secondary investment in Edwin James Group. Aliter’s relationship with Edwin James Group dates back to early 2017, when its first fund invested in the engineering services company. Motivair is Edwin James Group’s second bolt-on acquisition this year, following the acquisition of control systems specialists ACS, in January 2024.
